PTE Overview

PTE (Pearson Test of English) is a globally recognized and standardised English language proficiency test that assesses an individual’s communication skills. It is a computer delivered exam. Over 35,000+ universities and educational institutes across the globe rely on PTE scores for providing admissions in various degree courses. The PTE exam is accepted for study applications, work visas, immigration in US, UK,, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, UAE, Singapore, etc.

Ways to take PTE exam

PTE at PTE Test Center

  • In India, there are over 62 PTE test centers which are spread across major cities.
  • Usually no more that 10-15 test takers are allowed in a test-center.
  • Test takers must reach the test centers 30 minutes earlier to fullfill the check-in formalities.

PTE Syllabus

A BRIEF ON EACH SECTION:

Speaking & Writing (54 -67 minutes):

Speaking: It has 2 sections.

  • Speaking Section 1: It contains the personal introduction. This is an opportunity to give your selected institutions some information about yourself. This section is not scored.
  • Speaking Section 2: It contains read aloud, repeat sentence, describe image, retell lecture, answer short question, summarize group discussion and respond to a situation.

Writing:

  • Summarize written text: You have 10 minutes to write the summary in one sentence. Make sure to include the main points of the reading passage in a full single sentence of no more than 75 words.
  • Write Essay: For this section, you need to write a 200-300 word argumentative essay in response to a prompt. You have 20 minutes to write your essay.

Reading (29-30 minutes):

  • For this section, you need to read the passage and answer the multiple choice question. This module contains multiple choice – choose a single answer, multiple choice- choose multiple answers, re-order paragraphs and fill in the blanks

Listening (30-43 minutes):

  • You hear an audio recording and need to write a 50-70 word summary on what you heard in 10 mintues. This module also has multiple-choicechoose multiple answers, fill in the blanks, highlight correct summary, multiple choice- single answer, select missing word, highlight incorrect words and write from dictation.
PTE Scoring
  • PTE Academic, Core and PTE Academic UKVI scores are graded between 10-90.
  • There is an Overall PTE score. You will also get individual scores for Speaking, Writing, Listening & Reading.
  • PTE Home A1, A2 & B1 are beginner’s level of English exam. It tests 2 skills – Speaking and Listening. There is only a Pass or Fail Result.
